Today let’s make cute little Toucan birds with pistachio shells.
Toucans are big birds, with huge, colorful beaks as you can see in this picture from Pixabay.
Our pistachio shell toucan birds will be tiny, of course, made from pistachio shells as they are, but they can be cute, as you will see:
Materials used in making pistachio shell toucan birds:
- pistachio shells
- acrylic paint
- a straw
The secret to success here is in the way you glue the pistachio shells to one another:
We need five pistachio shell-halves to make each bird – a pair for the bill, a pair for the body, and half a shell for the tail. Glue them together them as shown in the picture below:
While gluing them up, you can also twist the head by 90 degrees, as follows:
The next most important thing is the painting of the pistachio shells.
Notice how the head is separated from the bill:
Once the paint and varnish are dry you want to seat the bird(s). This is where the straw can be used. To securely fix the bird to the straw, cut a small hole in the straw and seat the bird in the hole.
Here is a step-by-step video showing you the entire process of making pistachio shell toucan birds:
You can use them as garden ornaments and if you make enough number of them, you can make a beautiful wind chime. They can also be used as buttons and ornaments of drapes.
So, let me know what you think about my shell craft.
So much for today…
