Pistachio shell pendants

This is a sequel to my previous post, Peanut Shell Earrings. I made these pistachio shell pendants to match those earrings, so that together they form three sets of jewelry – funky and chic at the same time.

How did I make them?

Materials used to make pistachio shell pendants:

  • pistachio shells (pairs)
  • jump rings
  • acrylic paint
  • varnish
  • beads
  • glue

The very first step is to make holes in the pistachio shells to insert the jump rings. How I pierce the shells, I have revealed in my article DIY Pistachio Shell Earrings . It’s easy enough, but should not be tried by a child. It’s better to let the adults make the holes in the pistachio shells.

Here is another secret:

You can make a pistachio shell pendant without piercing/making holes in the pistachio shells. How? Place an eye-pin or a head pin between the two halves of the pistachio shell so that the eye or the head is inside the shells. Glue the two shell-halves to form a whole. Now the part of the pin that is outside the shell can be bent to form a loop. Like the idea? try it out. (Picture from Amazon)

The next step is to paint and varnish the shells. Insert the jump rings after the paint this dry. That’s it – you are done. You can further enhance the look of your pendant with glitter or beads, like I have done.
